Under Portland's Bridges to Lake Oswego, With Dinner on Board

A Portland Spirit dinner cruise that heads south under the city's bridges toward Lake Oswego, then turns back north past downtown to the Steel Bridge.

The Portland Spirit's dinner cruise spends two and a half hours on the Willamette. It heads south under Portland's bridges toward Lake Oswego, then turns back north past downtown.

The food is Northwest cuisine, locally sourced and prepared fresh on board. A pianist plays during dinner, and a narrated history of the sights runs on the outer decks.

The booking below sells one version: a reserved table and a three-course dinner. Children aged 1 to 12 pay the adult rate, and one booking covers up to nine people.

The start time moves with the season: 6:00 PM through November, 7:00 PM in December, then 6:30 PM on Fridays to Sundays only from January to April. Christmas Day is not on sale.

South Under the Bridges, Toward Lake Oswego

The boat goes south first, past the Hawthorne, called the oldest vertical lift bridge in operation in America, then the Marquam, the USS Blueback at OMSI, Tilikum Crossing, Ross Island Bridge, Sellwood Bridge and Oaks Amusement Park.

Past Sellwood comes Elk Rock Island, which only the dinner cruise sees up close on the way toward Lake Oswego. The island is described as part of an ancient volcano, and its jagged basalt may be the oldest exposed rock in the Portland area.

The return leg runs north past downtown. The boat turns around at the Steel Bridge before heading back to the dock, with the Morrison and Burnside bridges and the Portland Oregon sign along the way.

Three Courses From the Galley

Dinner is bread, a salad, your choice of entrée and a house dessert. The operator's sample menu, which it says changes daily, lists Parmesan-crusted chicken, Northwest steelhead, braised beef short ribs from Pendleton, blackened lamb and a vegan pasta primavera, with chicken tenders or buttered pasta for children.

Drinks, appetizers, other desserts and the gratuity are not included. Gluten-free and vegan options are available; request the change before the cruise. Each booking gets its own reserved table, though a window seat is not guaranteed.

Everyone is photographed when boarding, a Coast Guard security step, and buying the printed photo is optional.

Piano at the Table, Narration on Deck

The narration plays on the outer decks. To hear it at your table, bring headphones and listen on your phone through the operator's app; printed narration guides are also available. A traveler wrote in September 2026 that the history "was probably interesting but you had to go outside to hear it."

Wheelchairs can use the enclosed lower deck, which has accessible restrooms, while the bow and observation deck are reached only by stairs. The boarding ramp has a 90-degree turn and can be steep, particularly in summer, and chairs up to 32 inches wide fit. Add wheelchair details to the booking notes.

Boarding at Salmon Springs With a QR Code

📍 Most public cruises board at Salmon Springs Dock, 1010 SW Naito Pkwy, on the downtown bank. The vessel and boarding point can change, and the departure point is shown on your confirmation.

  • Show the QR code from the confirmation email to board, on your phone or printed.
  • Guests 18 and older carry photo ID.
  • The boat leaves at the scheduled time and cannot wait for late arrivals.
  • The boarding area is not covered. The operator suggests business casual or dressy casual and no thin high heels.
  • Carry-on bags may be inspected, and the vessel is non-smoking.

For parking, the operator suggests the World Trade Center garage at 56 SW Taylor St. The nearest MAX stop is SW 1st & Yamhill on the Red and Blue lines.

The map pin is not the public boarding point: it marks Portland Spirit's office and Caruthers Landing dock at 110 SE Caruthers St on the east bank. Public dinner cruises usually board at Salmon Springs Dock, 1010 SW Naito Pkwy, across the river. The departure point can change, so use the address in your confirmation.

A full refund needs at least 24 hours' notice. Then get to the dock early, settle at your table, and step outside when the Hawthorne passes overhead.
