Description

The preserve is safeguarded under Miami-Dade County's Environmentally Endangered Lands (EEL) Program, established after local voters approved a dedicated property tax between 1990 and 1992 to counter the ongoing loss of native wilderness. It belongs to a broader conservation initiative that has brought more than 20,700 acres into public ownership, alongside an additional 2,800 acres managed across county parks to keep critical regional habitats intact.
