Trick or Treating Happens Between Parked Steam Locomotives

A family Halloween day at the Colorado Railroad Museum brings trick or treating, a silly graveyard, and haunted railcars.

Bring the kids to Harvest Haunt at the railroad museum.

🎃 The Saturday Haunt

🚂 What Is Set Up

Harvest Haunt turns the Colorado Railroad Museum yard into a daytime Halloween route, with trick or treating stations, a silly graveyard, and railcars decorated for the season. Kids walk the loop in costume and collect candy from volunteers stationed along the track. The 2026 event runs from ten in the morning until three in the afternoon, which keeps it firmly in daylight. Restored engines and rolling stock stay on display throughout.

👻 Around the Yard

The yard does most of the work, with locomotives, a roundhouse, and standing exhibits open during the event. Volunteers in costume hand out candy, and photo props appear between the cars. The museum sits on fifteen acres of track in Golden, which gives strollers and small legs plenty of flat ground. Indoor exhibits give a warm break from the wind, and the gift shop stays open across the whole day.

🎫 Hours, Tickets, and Fit

Saturday, October 17 runs from ten in the morning until three in the afternoon at 17155 West 44th Avenue in Golden. Tickets go through the museum, and members enter at a reduced rate. Train rides operate separately from the Halloween route and fill first, worth checking before arrival. It fits young children in costume and adults who like working railroad equipment. If you wanted a real scare, this one stays gentle.
