🎃 Friday Afternoon in East Midtown

⏳ Why Friday Beats Saturday

Halloween lands on a Saturday this year, and the East Midtown route runs only from 3:00 to 7:00 PM on Friday, October 30. Now in its 12th year, the event has drawn tens of thousands of families and keeps showing up on lists of the city's best Halloween events for kids. Missing that four-hour window means waiting another year for the same neighborhood-wide candy run.

🍬 What's Along the Route

Dozens of participating neighborhood businesses hand out candy, and the organizers publish a Google Map of this year's route, so check the 2026 map before heading out rather than last year's list. At 919 Third Avenue, the Maniac Pumpkin Carvers jack-o'-lantern display shares the stop with decorating a trick-or-treat bag before the first candy run. Around the corner, Sunrise at East 56th at 139 East 56th Street sets up spooky pumpkin painting.

👟 Planning the Afternoon

The program is designed for kids 12 and under and their families, with costumes, candy and a few crafts packed into one afternoon without a late night. Start at Third Avenue for the bag and the carved pumpkins, then head around the corner to East 56th Street for painting. Greenacre Park on East 51st Street offers a quiet seat beside a waterfall between stops, and dinner nearby keeps the evening close to the route.
