A Waterfront Walk from Seafood to Drinks

Start with a tree-covered walk at John Golden Park, pause for waterfront seafood at Johnny's Reef, then finish with drinks at Joyce's Tavern. The route moves from daytime activity to a relaxed evening table.

Paths, Picnic Tables, Decks

John Golden Park, Queens

Tree cover and open ground set the pace at this public green space. Natural-soil walking routes pass beneath the trees, while a road circling the grounds gives cyclists a loop to ride. Baseball, basketball, and tennis fields create room for sports, while gazebos, a picnic area, and a playground offer places to pause. Some routes cross the highway toward the bay area. Entry is free, with daily hours from 6:00 AM to 9:00 PM.

Johnny's Reef

City Island diners collect fresh and fried seafood through a cafeteria-style setup, then choose a seat in the indoor or outdoor picnic area. Tables overlook the water, with room for groups. Located at 2 City Island Ave, this restaurant has served fresh and fried seafood for over 60 years. Opening is daily at 11:30 AM. It closes at 10:00 PM Monday through Thursday, 11:30 PM Friday and Saturday, and 12:30 AM Sunday.

Richmond Avenue Deck

Behind Joyce's Tavern, a rear outdoor seating area stays away from main-street traffic. The O'Toole family has run this Eltingville neighborhood pub from 1966 onward. Inside, traditional tables leave room for large group gatherings. Seasonal fare shares the menu with draft beer, specialty cocktails, and Irish coffee. Gluten-free options widen the choices for diners with dietary needs. The tavern opens at 12:00 PM daily and stays open until 2:00 AM Friday and Saturday.
