🍂 The Men the Tour Names

Kevin C. Fitzpatrick, author of World War I New York, leads this Veterans Day walk to the graves and memorials of men and women who served a century ago. The stories stay individual: soldiers who fought in the trenches, aviators who went up in open biplanes, a member of the Harlem Hellfighters, and immigrants who were drafted and served their new country.

🥾 An Afternoon on Foot

The Conservancy runs trolley tours as well; this edition is walked, so wear walking shoes and bring a layer for a November afternoon outdoors. The grounds close at 4:30 p.m., and the cemetery asks visitors to call (718) 920-0500 when the weather turns wet or windy.

🚇 Getting There and Tickets

Take the 4 train to the end of the line at Woodlawn; the Jerome Avenue entrance at Bainbridge Avenue is about half a block from the station. Tickets are $20, or $15 for students, seniors, and members. The Paddock on Katonah Avenue sits about 1.5 miles (2.3 km) northeast, a walk of roughly 30 minutes, for lunch after.
