Torii Gate Garden
5.0 (4)park
A tranquil corner of Lake Merritt centered on a vivid crimson gate gifted by Oakland's sister city, Fukuoka.
Description

Dedicated in 2004 to the memory of Oakland Mayor Frank Ogawa, this part of the Gardens at Lake Merritt pairs civic commemoration with quiet wildlife spaces. Directly beside the gate, the reimagined Cascades water feature operates with a living-plant filtration system. One side of the water serves as a Dragonfly Habitat and the opposite features the Tree Frog Tower, creating a haven that shelters small birds in winter and fills with flowers and insects across spring and summer.
