Description

First planned in 1951 along Lawrence Avenue and expanded through a 2012 land donation, the site operates with no structured programming, serving primarily as an open neighborhood play space.

Its identity is tied closely to Grace Zwiefka Thuis, who spent over six decades with the Chicago Park District. Beginning her tenure in 1933 as a physical instructor at Holstein Park, she eventually became General Supervisor of Physical Activities in 1970, placing her in charge of women’s recreation for the entire city before the district renamed the park in her memory in 2005.
