Three St. John's Clubs Thursday, Then Qawwali and Dinner Saturday

Four clubs on one Queens campus, sorted by the clock. Saturday's dinner is the one that takes outside guests, and it takes them by advance list.

How These Four Fit Together

Most campus club listings give you a room number and nothing else. These four say enough to plan around.

Three of them fall on Thursday, September 24. Two of those three sit in the same building, and they overlap for seventy minutes, so one trip covers both. The fourth is Saturday night, and it runs long.

What follows is in time order.

Marillac Hall Runs Two at Once

St. Louise de Marillac Hall carries both Thursday afternoon events. MEDLIFE takes Terrace B, table three, from 1:30 to 3:30, on a booking for one table and two chairs. Phi Alpha Delta has room 307 from 1:50 to 3:00, in a classroom that seats twenty five.

Buy something at the table, sit through the pre-law session, and come back out while the sale is still going.

Bring cash. The university listing for the sale names no prices, and neither do the other three.

The Sale Funds a Service Trip

MEDLIFE is the campus chapter of an international health and development organization. The university listing states that proceeds from Thursday go toward the chapter's upcoming Service Learning Trip.

So the table on Terrace B is a travel fund. The listing names no destination and no target amount.

The photographs below show MEDLIFE field work. None of them was taken at the campus table.

Six O'Clock at the Law School

The SJU Defenders hold their fall general body meeting in classroom LL-01 at the law school, 6:00 to 7:00 on that same Thursday. The group is the law school's public defense student organization and sits on the school's own roster of student organizations. The booking names Martin LaFalce as faculty adviser and puts food in the room.

St. John's own news pages quote Samantha Velez, a 2024 graduate who joined the group as a law student: "SJU Defenders seeks to change the narrative of what public defense entails."

The listing addresses incoming and returning law students. Read that as the room's expected audience before you plan a visit.

Saturday Ends in the Ballroom

The Pakistan Student Association takes the combined 416ABC ballroom in D'Angelo Center on Saturday at 6:30 and holds it until 11:00. Live Qawwali and a Pakistani dinner are the draw, and the university listing names both.

The setup order tells you the shape of the night: eighteen round tables, a platform stage assembled from four sections, railings, two sets of stairs. The room seats 429 and the association is planning for 200.

Four and a half hours is the whole evening. The association says the night also introduces its work for the year to new and returning members.

Before You Go

A few things these listings settle, and a few they leave open.

  • Room numbers are exact: Terrace B table three, Marillac 307, law school LL-01, D'Angelo 416ABC.
  • 📍 All four sit on the Queens campus at 80-00 Utopia Parkway. The law school building is at the eastern edge of it.
  • St. John's runs student club events as closed by default. Its student leader guidance states that student run events are not open to the public, and outside guests come in on a pre-registered list that organizers arrange weeks ahead.
  • The four listings do not answer that the same way. MEDLIFE's asks for the St. John's only guest policy. The PAD session and the Defenders meeting name no guest policy at all, and the Defenders listing addresses law students.
  • Saturday is the exception, and it is explicit. The PSA booking asks for the pre-registration guest list policy and states the evening is open to the broader community, with roughly a hundred outside guests expected: alumni, families, neighboring universities, local residents drawn by the Qawwali.
  • Ask PSA for that list before Saturday. At an approved event, St. John's students show a physical StormCard, guests show a state ID, and everyone passes a security check.
