Three Pittsburgh Breweries, Seen From the Production Floor
A guide walks you into the production areas of three Pittsburgh breweries, and the van handles the driving between them.
Pittsburgh sits where three rivers meet, and its breweries ended up scattered across the bridges and tunnels that connect the banks. One works out of an old brass and bronze foundry in Bloomfield. Another sits in Verona, a borough north of the city proper. Reaching three of them in an afternoon is a driving problem before it is a drinking one.
This tour settles the driving first, then spends the guide on access a walk-in customer does not get. City Brew Tours runs a van between three breweries and sends an Expert Beer Guide in with the group, through the production areas rather than around the taproom.

The run is fixed at 3.5 hours and ends at the curb where it started, on Smallman Street. Everyone meets there, and hotel collection is specifically not part of it. Twelve pours is the ceiling across the three stops, with a paired pretzel snack alongside.

The operator describes the day as a behind-the-scenes tour of brewery production areas, with beers hand-selected to each group's taste. That is the part a seat at the bar does not buy. The access is credited to the operator's own relationships with local brewers, which it says it built to get guests unfettered access to their spaces.
Its Pittsburgh page makes a related claim: a carefully curated roster of producers, and exclusive knowledge of the process behind the beer. In practice that reads as standing near working tanks while someone explains what is in them, which is a different afternoon from reading a tap list.
The roster moves

The three stops are not fixed. The published itinerary is labelled a sample with schedules subject to change, and the brewery names differ between the listing text and the itinerary itself. Treat the specific breweries as the variable and the format as the constant.
The sample run visits Inner Groove Brewing in Verona, Hop Farm Brewing Company in Lawrenceville, and Trace Brewing in Bloomfield. The operator's wider Pittsburgh roster also lists Allegheny City Brewing, Strange Roots, Old Thunder, Cinderlands, Burgh'ers, Abjuration, Arsenal Cider House, COVEN and Lolev. Scale runs from regional producers down to nano-breweries.
The van is doing real work
Verona, Lawrenceville and Bloomfield do not join up on foot, and the river geography routes the connections over bridges and through tunnels. Round-trip transport is included, and the tour returns to the same curb it left from.
Nobody in the group has to drive between the three stops. That is the practical reason this format exists, and it explains why the day is built around one meeting point instead of a pickup round.
Rules that actually bite
Minimum age is 21, listed with no exceptions, and identification is part of check-in: an unexpired state ID for US citizens, a passport for everyone else. Closed-toe shoes are required and open-toed shoes are not permitted, written up as a safety condition of being on a brewery floor rather than a dress preference.
Arriving drunk ends the day before it starts. Pre-gaming is prohibited, anyone visibly intoxicated is refused entry, and that refusal carries no refund. The tour operates in all weather conditions. Dressing for the forecast is on you. A vegetarian option exists when flagged at the time of booking.
Departure is from the curb in front of the Hampton Inn & Suites at 1247 Smallman Street in the Strip District, where the van parks near the valet area. Arrive at least ten minutes ahead. Booking closes two hours before the start time, and confirmation is manual rather than instant.
Cancelling at least 24 hours before the scheduled departure returns the full amount. The run also carries a minimum headcount and can be called off after confirmation if numbers fall short or the weather turns, in which case the operator offers an alternative or a full refund.
