Three New Student Welcomes, From the Bronx to San Diego
How new students find their footing across three US campuses, from the Bronx to San Diego, in the first weeks of fall.
New York, John Jay and Rose Hill
At John Jay, the International Students Association runs a meet and greet where students from abroad trade notes on housing, visas, and where to find their people, and the room is built for anyone new to the city, not only first-years. Food, flags, and familiar faces.
Up at Fordham's Rose Hill, Fall Orientation stretches across several days, folding move-in into campus tours and academic-success sessions. Pace the weekend, and leave time to actually wander the Bronx blocks nearby.
San Diego, the SDSU convocation
On the West Coast, San Diego State opens the year with a New Student and Family Convocation, a morning ceremony that gathers the incoming class and their families in one arena. It is the official start line, the first time the incoming class sits together as one. Come with family, and expect a big, loud welcome.
Before you go
These welcomes are built for their own new students and families, and the SDSU convocation and Fordham orientation are tied to enrollment rather than open to drop-ins. The John Jay meet and greet is the easiest for any international student to join. Check each organizer for timing and access before you plan around them.
