Three Cocktails and Prohibition Stories at a Gulch Speakeasy

A two-hour cocktail class in the Gulch with three drinks, bar snacks and Prohibition stories, mixed from behind a speakeasy bar.

Sip History runs its two-hour cocktail class inside Golden Sound, a bar at 610 Magazine Street in the Gulch, a retro recording studio turned speakeasy. A host mixes drinks, tells stories about Nashville's drinking past and hands out tips you can use at home.

Three cocktails and basic bar snacks come with the ticket; the tip does not. It is a 21-and-over class. Recent reviewers name Tommy most often as host, alongside Santiago, Bradley and Jacob, and no session names the host in advance.

Weekday seats and Friday or Saturday seats sell as two separate options on the booking page, and the weekend option costs more. A full refund needs cancellation at least 24 hours before the start.

A Recording Studio Turned Speakeasy

Golden Sound sits in a historic building on Magazine Street that began as a recording studio, according to Nashville Guru's 2024 look inside. The room runs on warm wood, a long marble bar and curved leather banquettes, and the class works from that bar.

The night's history thread is Prohibition: moonshine, flappers and Al Capone's bootlegging escapades through Printers Alley. Expect the history told as stories with jokes mixed in, closer to a bar show than a lecture. A February 2026 reviewer called it part party and part lesson.

Three Cocktails, and Your Turn Behind the Bar

Guests get time behind a real bar. The February 2026 review describes participants making the cocktails while the host explains the history behind each one. Reviewers differ on how many of the three drinks they mixed themselves. One in December 2025 wrote that they got to make a couple, and a July 2026 reviewer wished the class had them make all three.

The class suits bachelorette parties and couples alike. A solo traveler wrote in December 2025 that it suits someone on their own in a new city, with new friends made along the way.

Group Size and the Front Door

One booking takes up to fifteen travelers. A June 2026 reviewer came with a group of eight and called it a good size.

The door is easy to miss. Look for a large brown door on the corner of Magazine and Mansion Street with the number 610 above it, then walk into the bar and show your ticket to the host. The same June reviewer had trouble finding the place because the door carries no name.

Start Times, Age and Getting Home

Classes start at 1:00 PM every day, and Mondays and Tuesdays add a 5:00 PM class. Friday and Saturday seats sit under the separate weekend option.

Everyone must be 21 or older, and the class is not recommended for pregnant travelers. The venue and its surfaces are wheelchair accessible; no further access details have been published. With three cocktails in two hours, an August 2026 reviewer advised not planning to drive afterward.

📍 The map pin marks Sip History at Golden Sound, 610 Magazine Street in the Gulch. Paid lots and street parking are nearby, per Nashville Guru, though a rideshare suits a class built around three drinks. Arrive a few minutes early to find the brown door, then settle in at the marble bar for two hours of stories and shaking tins.
