A Chicago Dive Bar Pairs Knotty Pine with a Photo Booth

Drink American beer in a West Town hangout with a literary past and four red booths.

Plan an evening at Rainbo Club.

🍺 Beer With a Backstory

Rainbo Club brings a literary backstory to a beer at 1150 N Damen Ave in West Town. It opened in 1936 in a building owned by Rose Podulka. The space inspired the fictional Tug and Maul Bar in the 1949 Nelson Algren novel The Man With the Golden Arm. Dee Taira bought the club with Gavin Morrison in October 1985.

Decades old knotty pine, four red booths, and a candy red vinyl couch line a room that long served as a haunt for writers, artists, and musicians. Eclectic art and a vintage photo booth share the setting with walls listing the available beers. Pick an American beer before stepping into the booth.

Before settling in, remember that this is a cash only bar for guests aged 21 and over. Hours run from 4 PM to 2 AM Sunday through Friday, and 4 PM to 3 AM on Saturday.
