Bed Stuy Urban Farm With Chickens, Reggae and African Sculptures
Shop the volunteer-run farmers market, then learn about herbal medicine at the onsite apothecary.
🌿 Herbs Beyond the Harvest
Reggae music, curries served in large gourd bowls, and chickens clucking in a backyard coop. Hattie Carthan Community Garden brings that combination to 700 Marcy Avenue in Bed Stuy. Farmer Yon serves as the steward of the land. African sculptures share this urban farm with crops, giving a Brooklyn garden outing an entirely different soundtrack and setting.
The farmers market offers abundant produce, with volunteers of all ages staffing it. Alongside the growing space, an onsite apothecary serves as a place to learn about herbal medicine. Follow your appetite here, then turn your attention to the plants and the knowledge around them. Food, cultivation, and learning all have a place in this community garden.
The garden opens Monday and Tuesday from 10 AM to noon, and Friday and Saturday from 10 AM to 6 PM. It is closed Wednesday, Thursday, and Sunday.
