The Whole Helicopter Is Yours From White Plains to Midtown

The aircraft is yours either way. The only real choice is thirty minutes, which turns back at Midtown, or forty-five, which carries on to the harbor.

Fly your own helicopter from White Plains to Midtown.

Flights leave from Westchester County Airport. Metro-North runs an express from Grand Central to White Plains in thirty-five minutes, and a taxi covers the last stretch to the hangar in about fifteen. Parking at the airport is free if you drive.

The operator says the helicopter is in New York City airspace within minutes of lifting off, so the trip runs backwards from what you might expect. You head out of the city to reach the aircraft, and the aircraft brings you straight back over it. You book the whole helicopter here, so the flight does not depend on anyone else showing up.

Two lengths are sold, thirty minutes and forty-five, and each comes in a version with a roundtrip car transfer from Manhattan. One price covers both passengers.

Thirty Minutes Turns Back Before the Harbor

The thirty-minute flight covers Midtown Manhattan, Central Park, the Empire State Building, Harlem, Yankee Stadium and the George Washington Bridge. It does not reach Lower Manhattan or the Statue of Liberty. The listing says so twice, once in the description and once in the traveler notes.

Forty-five minutes keeps all of that and adds the Freedom Tower, Battery Park, the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island. If the harbor is the picture already in your head, book that one.

Routes shift for weather, air traffic control and temporary flight restrictions, so the order the landmarks arrive in is not fixed.

Daylight and Dark Are Two Different Flights

The listing sells the flight at sunset, in daylight and after dark, and the city reads differently in each. In daylight Central Park is a solid green rectangle with the grid pressed against both long sides. After dark the same shape goes black and the towers around it do the work.

Whichever slot you take, check in thirty minutes before the flight. The itinerary counts that half hour as its first step.

The Hangar Is at 67 Tower Road

The meeting point is Atlantic Aviation West at 67 Tower Road, White Plains, on the general aviation side of Westchester County Airport. It is a working fixed base operator with a lounge and a ramp, and the pin on the map below points at it.

To skip the trip north altogether, the transfer options include a roundtrip car between anywhere in Manhattan and the airport for an additional fee. Rates are quoted for regular cars.

  • 🚆 Metro-North express, Grand Central to White Plains: 35 minutes
  • 🚕 Taxi, White Plains station to the hangar: about 15 minutes
  • 🅿️ Parking at the airport: free

Weight, Height and Who Can Fly

Weather and maintenance cancel flights, and when they do the operator offers an alternative date or a full refund. Cancelling yourself at least 24 hours before departure returns the full fare.

The flight ends on the same ramp at 67 Tower Road, and the ride home is the one you already know. Take the picture early. The city arrives within minutes of lifting off, and both windows are yours for the rest of it.
