The Marshall House: Victorian Jewel of Officers Row
4.9 (10)museum
An 1886 Queen Anne home on Officers Row, with stained glass, a turret, and ties to General George C. Marshall.
Description

Built as a residence for the commanding officer of Vancouver Barracks during western development, the house sheltered military leadership through the end of World War II. Inside, preserved Victorian details include ornate decorative woodwork.
General George C. Marshall lived here from 1936 to 1938 while commanding the barracks and the regional Civilian Conservation Corps. In 1937, the home served as the reception site when the Marshalls welcomed the Russian crew of the first nonstop transpolar flight from Europe to America. The city acquired the property in 1984, renovating it in the late 1980s alongside the rest of Officers Row.
