The Marco Island the Mackle Brothers Built, Seen by Boat
A narrated two-hour ride from Goodland past Marco Island's beachfront and canal estates, built around the island's stories.
Florida Island Tours runs this ride for people who want Marco Island explained as well as shown. The boat leaves Goodland, one of the small communities around Marco, crosses the mangrove estuary of the Ten Thousand Islands National Wildlife Refuge, and spends its talk on what the island became after the 1960s: beachfront high-rises, canals lined with estate homes, and the people behind them.
Asked whether this is a wildlife tour, the operator answers no; asked whether guests see dolphins, it answers yes, most times. The listing says every guide is a Florida certified master naturalist and a member of the Marco Island Historical Society.

The listing books two hours on a shared boat, with a cooler and ice supplied and parking included. Food and drinks are yours to bring.
Best of Marco Island TourTwo hours from Goodland's private docks, Monday to Saturday, six guests at most. Cooler with ice provided; bring your own food and drinks.www.viator.comGoodland Gets Its Own Half Hour

The listing gives Goodland half an hour from the water, with the guide on the village's history and its reputation as a "drinking town with a fishing problem."
The boat also passes Stan's Idle Hour, the waterfront restaurant across the road from the dock, and the listing promises "the real story" of what it calls one of the coolest bars in Florida. The longest stretch on the listing is an hour through the Ten Thousand Islands refuge, where, depending on the time of year, you may see dolphins, manatees and birds.
Canals, High-Rises and the Homes of Marco Estates

The Mackle brothers of the Deltona Corporation led Marco's development in the 1960s, and the operator dates their purchase to 1962. The aerial above, shot in June 1973 for the Environmental Protection Agency's Documerica project, shows the new canal grid still edged in bare fill.
From the water the guide can point out the beachfront hotels and condos, help find where you are staying, and name Marco South Beach, Residents' Beach and Tigertail Beach. The operator says guides show homes for sale in Marco Estates and point out where a few celebrities live: expect real estate talk alongside the history. Waterfront restaurants go by too, with the crew's tips on where to eat.
The Cape Romano Dome House Is Only a Story Now
The listing still names the Cape Romano Dome House among its topics, but the operator writes that the domes, built in 1982 and abandoned in 1994, were destroyed when Category 4 Hurricane Ian hit on September 28, 2022, and that it no longer runs a dome house trip. On this ride the dome house comes as a story and the guide's photographs, not a stop.
Other stories on the operator's list: Captain John Foley Horr's pineapple plantation, Joe Dickman, who lived as a hermit on a barrier island for over 30 years, the Calusa people who lived around Marco for thousands of years, and the island's pirates and saltwater cowboys.
Six Guests at Most, and No Restroom Aboard
The listing caps a shared departure at six travelers, and the operator says Coast Guard rules limit its boats to six passengers regardless of age. Children and infants count toward the six.
The cooler and ice are supplied. Food and drinks are bring-your-own, and the operator bans red wine aboard, which stains the vinyl seats and fiberglass. Dogs stay home. There is no restroom on the boat. The operator's FAQ sends guests to the restrooms at Stan's across the street, but Stan's is a restaurant and may not be open before an early departure, so stop on the way to Goodland. In an emergency the captain will try to reach a marina restroom, which the operator says is usually a ride away.
Wear non-marking soles, or the crew may ask you to go barefoot. The boat in the operator's photos has a canopy over the seats, but bring sun protection anyway. The operator says it is colder on the water than on land and that it keeps to the protected waters of the Ten Thousand Islands on windy days, so bring a light jacket.
📍 Meet at 220 Goodland Drive in Goodland. Park free in the gravel lot behind the white fence, across the road from Stan's Idle Hour, then look for a wooden gate with the operator's sign and a second sign reading PRIVATE DOCKS. The captain or guide meets guests near that gate, and the operator asks for arrival 15 minutes before departure. On a shared boat the crew cannot always hold the departure for latecomers.
As of October 27, 2026, the listing's calendar showed departures Monday to Saturday at 8:30 AM, 11:00 AM and 1:30 PM, with a 4:00 PM boat added from January 2027. The listing refunds in full for cancellations at least 24 hours ahead. The operator runs in light rain and calls trips off for lightning and small craft advisories; a weather cancellation on the listing comes with a new date or a full refund. The operator also notes that this ride does not stop at a beach.
