The LaLaurie Mansion and Other French Quarter Haunts, on Foot

A two-hour French Quarter ghost walk that stops at the LaLaurie Mansion and steps into a bar along the way.

Haunted History Tours sends several walks out from the same block of St. Peter Street. This is its ghost tour, which the operator calls French Quarter Ghosts & Legends. Its FAQ says the ghost and vampire tours are completely different, and that the ghost tour goes to French Quarter sites connected to what it calls actual documented hauntings.

The walk stays inside the French Quarter and does not visit a cemetery. The operator runs its cemetery tour separately, and in daytime.

Walks start at 3:00, 6:00 and 8:00 PM. The listing and the operator's booking notes both ask you to check in 20 minutes before your start time. Confirmation is instant.

The House the Listing Calls the Most Haunted

The listing names the LaLaurie Mansion at 1140 Royal Street as a stop and gives it 12 minutes. It calls the house the most haunted in New Orleans and tells the story of a socialite who, in its words, was a cold blooded murderer who took the lives of innocent people right under the noses of the affluent New Orleanians. The operator's description of this tour says the stories include the gruesome deeds of the slave owners.

The operator says many sites on the route are private homes and that groups do not go inside them. Expect much of the walk to be told from the sidewalk.

Parents should weigh that subject matter. The operator sells the walk for all ages.

A Bar on the Way, and a Question for Families

The listing says the walk visits a haunted bar along the way. The operator's FAQ says its ghost and vampire tours go into a couple of haunted bars. The listing adds that the Quarter has more haunted bars than one tour can include, and that the one on this walk is often Lafitte's Blacksmith Shop on Bourbon Street. Reviewers describe the stop as a break about halfway through to buy a drink and use the restroom. Food and drinks are not part of the ticket.

Neither the operator nor the listing says what children do during that stop. Reviews from 2023 and 2024 say the bar did not let minors in and that children had no restroom there. Have children use a restroom before the walk, and ask the guide at check-in where they should wait.

On this listing, everyone 6 and up books at the adult rate, and children 5 and under go in a separate infant band.

An Evening Walk That Also Leaves at 3:00 PM

The listing describes a two-hour evening walking tour. Its booking calendar sells three departures a day, at 3:00, 6:00 and 8:00 PM, and the operator's own booking calendar shows the same three.

The 3:00 PM departure is an afternoon walk, so pick a later start if darkness is the point. The 8:00 PM walk is the latest of the three. A reviewer in June 2026 wrote that the heat made them cut their daytime walk short.

Bring a camera. The listing invites you to try to catch something in a photo, and the operator's FAQ says some people experience something paranormal and some do not.

Rain, Mardi Gras Day and Halloween Night

Tours run rain or shine, per the operator, and there are no tours on Mardi Gras Day. The booking calendar shows no 3:00 PM walk on Christmas Eve or Christmas Day. As of October 21, 2026, all three departures were on the calendar for Halloween, which falls on a Saturday this year.

The operator's FAQ calls the walking a leisurely stroll, blocks, not miles. The listing ticks wheelchair and stroller access, and the operator's own pages do not address either. A 2016 reviewer whose party used a wheelchair wrote that they made it to the end but were almost always behind because of the condition of the sidewalks.

  • One booking takes up to nine travelers, and the listing caps a shared group at 28. Reviews from 2024 and 2025 report groups from 11 to just under 30, and one March 2025 check-in was split in two.
  • On busy nights some reviewers could not hear the guide over street noise, so stay close to the front.
  • Gratuities are not included.
  • Cancel at least 24 hours before departure for a full refund. Inside 24 hours, nothing comes back.

📍 Check in on the 700 block of St. Peter Street, between Bourbon and Royal, across from Pat O'Brien's. The listing and the operator's FAQ name the start as Reverend Zombie's Voodoo Shop. The operator's booking notes give the address as 723 St. Peter Street and the listing prints 725. The Historic New Orleans Collection's Vieux Carré survey records 723-725 St. Peter as one double Creole cottage. Arrive 20 minutes early.

The listing says the walk usually ends in or near Jackson Square, and that most guides finish near a bar in Pirate's Alley, beside the cathedral. A reviewer in March 2025 had a long walk back from a finish well east of the start, so work out your way back before you go. Several reviewers from 2024 to 2026 finished on the riverfront, with night views of the lit-up skyline and the bridge.
