The Hungarian Pastry Shop

Established in 1961 by Hungarian immigrants, this coffeehouse encourages patrons to sit as long as they like. The indoor space maintains a slow-paced, intellectual energy, featuring an author's wall that displays books written on the premises. Outside, tables look directly across the street toward the Cathedral Church of St. John the Divine, where coffee can be had alongside views of the architecture and the occasional call of the cathedral's peacocks.
