The Green-Wood Cemetery

This 478-acre National Historic Landmark and Revolutionary War battlefield holds 600,000 burials, including figures like Leonard Bernstein and Boss Tweed. Established in 1848, the serene grounds feature grand Gothic Revival spires at the main 25th Street entrance, where a colony of bright green Argentinian Monk Parrots nests directly in the stonework. Visitors can take in Manhattan skyline views from Battle Hill or stand by the bronze monument of Minerva for a direct view across the harbor toward the Statue of Liberty.
