Description

Painted along the concrete wall of the Tujunga Wash flood control channel in Valley Glen, the 2,755-foot artwork documents California from prehistoric times through the 1950s. Initiated in 1974 by artist Judith Baca and executed between 1977 and 1983, the project mobilized over 400 community youths and artists. Across the concrete, the panels highlight histories and multi-ethnic contributions often omitted from standard narratives, making it one of the largest mural projects in the world.
