The Flatiron's Netting Is Off: Where to Stand
The black netting is off the 1902 wedge, though a sidewalk shed still wraps the base. Three spots show it whole.
📷 Three Angles, One Wedge
Netting went up in 2019 for a facade restoration; it started coming down in spring 2026, and most was off by summer. The black mesh is gone from the upper floors, though a protected walkway still runs along the base. The block between Fifth Avenue and Broadway finishes in a point at 23rd Street, so the building shows two faces at once. Three angles cover it. The North Plaza, at 23rd and Broadway, gives you the point head-on. The Broadway side, from 22nd Street, shows the long facade running down to that point. The Madison Square Park lawn sets the whole wedge above the trees, though the tip reads flatter from there. Morning sun rakes the Fifth Avenue face, the side the park lawn looks at, so that angle is front-lit before noon; by mid-afternoon the Broadway side takes the light, and from early November the sun sets before 5 p.m. The upper floors are being converted to private homes, so every frame here is from the street.
