The Darker Ghost Stories Pioneer Square Saves for 9 PM

A 90-minute night walk for ages 16 and up, with stops at Occidental Square, Smith Tower, Merchant's Cafe and the shuttered J&M.

The walk starts at 9:00 PM on the corner outside Baba Yaga Bar on South Washington Street and spends about 90 minutes in Pioneer Square. The operator, Ghost City Tours of Seattle, puts the route at about a mile and bills it as its adults-only Seattle walk, with mature themes, stronger language and more graphic historical accounts than its family-friendly ghost tour.

The booking page's only inclusion is the 90-minute walk with a local guide, and gratuities are extra. The listing's description promises tales connected to Seattle's Underground and the Felker House, yet neither is on its stop list, and none of the listed stops involves an admission ticket.

This card books The Seattle Obscura Adults Only Ghost Tour run by Ghost City Tours of Seattle: one shared 9:00 PM departure a night with an English-speaking guide. Tickets are listed at USD 34.99 per person and confirm instantly, and booking closes two hours before the start. One booking takes up to 30 travelers, and the listing caps a shared departure at 30.

Occidental Square and the Old Vice District

Occidental Square opens the booking page's stop list. Google Maps places it at 117 S Washington St, on the same stretch of Washington Street as the meeting corner. The listing calls it the birthplace of modern Seattle, sitting atop layers of buried history, and says the area was once the center of the city's notorious vice district, with public executions, corruption and gambling in its past. Visitors, it adds, report shadowy figures in the park after dark.

The listing gives each of its four named stops about ten minutes, forty of the ninety in all. Its description also promises other lesser-known locations that the stop list does not name.

Smith Tower's Wishing Chair and Two Claims to the Oldest Bar

Smith Tower, at 506 2nd Ave, is the stop the listing wraps in the most legend. It says the tower was the tallest building west of the Mississippi when it opened in 1914, and that employees and security guards have reported phantom elevator calls, cold spots and a mysterious woman tied to its Chinese Room and Wishing Chair.

The other two named stops are old saloons. The listing calls Merchant's Cafe, at 109 Yesler Way, one of Seattle's oldest continuously operating bars, serving since the aftermath of the Great Seattle Fire, with a hotel and brothel once on its upper floors. It says J&M Cafe and Cardroom, at First Avenue and Washington Street, is often called the city's oldest bar. The J&M no longer pours: Google Maps lists it as permanently closed, and Axios Seattle wrote in September 2025 that the saloon closed a few years ago. Axios added that it was one of three bars that claimed to be Seattle's oldest.

Sixteen and Up, With Adult Language

Both the booking page and the operator set the age floor at 16. A 16-year-old can book, though the operator's own profile of the walk marks it not recommended for families with teens. That profile lists graphic historical violence, true-crime detail, death and mortality, and adult language among its content notes.

You may not bring your own alcohol on the walk, the operator says. It also calls the tour pet-friendly, while the booking page's line reads service animals allowed. Gratuities are not included.

A 9:00 PM Start, Seven Nights a Week

As of October 20, 2026, the booking calendar listed the 9:00 PM walk every night with no blocked dates, and checks for Halloween and for January 15, 2027 both came back open. The operator says the tour runs seven nights a week, rain or shine, for about 90 minutes that vary by night.

The operator describes about a mile at a moderate pace through dimly lit historic areas, with plenty of chances to sit during the stories. Both the booking page and the operator's page mark the walk wheelchair accessible. The listing also calls it suitable for all physical fitness levels.

📍 Meet your guide on the corner outside Baba Yaga Bar at 124 S Washington St; the listing says the guide waits near the stop sign where South Washington Street meets First Avenue South. Arrive 15 minutes before 9:00 PM, as the listing asks. The operator suggests transit or rideshare, noting that parking downtown can be difficult, and its line for directions, 855-999-0491, answers daily from 9:00 AM to midnight.

Cancel at least 24 hours ahead for a full refund under the booking page's terms; the listing also notes a departure can be called off for bad weather or too few travelers. The booking page marks the finish on Second Avenue South, and the shuttered J&M stands at the same corner where the night begins.
