The Cove on Castro
4.5 (617)restaurant
A storied Castro diner and community mainstay, serving all-day breakfast and comfort classics across from the theatre.
Description

Owned by the Darwish family since 1971, this diner became an official San Francisco Legacy Business after decades anchoring neighborhood life. It was a gathering spot for gay activists across the 1970s and 1980s, a regular stop for Harvey Milk when his camera shop operated down the block, and a source of community support through the AIDS crisis. Historic artwork lines the walls, while the kitchen puts out comfort plates from Certified Angus burgers and meatloaf to four house-made soups daily, including clam chowder and a vegan option. Beer, wine, soju cocktails, and fresh-squeezed mimosas round out the tables.
