A run, a rink, gospel, roots rock and a stage musical, one plan per day for a four-day Chicago holiday stretch.
🦃 Thursday 9 AM, Lincoln Park Turkey Trot
The 48th Life Time Turkey Trot starts on Cannon Drive just south of Diversey Parkway, with 5K and 8K courses, a costume contest and a kids race later in the morning. Entry is 60 dollars for the 5K and 65 for the 8K. A post-race tailgate with warm cider and lawn games turns the finish into a social hour. Pack a dry layer for the walk home.
🎠 Friday 10 AM, Navy Pier Winter WonderFest
Wintrust Winter WonderFest opens on Black Friday inside Festival Hall at Navy Pier, an indoor holiday playground with ice skating, carnival rides and giant slides. General admission is 27 dollars online at least a day ahead, or 32 at the door. Ice skating is included with admission, and children 2 and under enter free. A Centennial Wheel ride adds 10 dollars.
🎤 Friday 6:30 PM, Gospel on Dearborn
Mark Hubbard and The Voices bring gospel harmonies to the Foundation Room at House of Blues on Dearborn Street the evening after Thanksgiving. It is the room for anyone who wants the holiday mood without a shopping bag in hand. The set starts at half past 6 in the evening, early enough to pair with a late dinner nearby. Ticket pricing is not listed yet. Check the venue before heading out.
🎸 Saturday 7 PM, BoDeans at The Vic
BoDeans, the Midwest roots rock band, join the Freddy Jones Band at The Vic Theatre on Sheffield Avenue for a Thanksgiving weekend concert. That is two Midwest bands on one Saturday bill in a Lakeview theater a short walk from the Belmont stop. Ticket pricing is not listed in our record. Confirm on the venue page before going.
🎭 Sunday 2 PM, Mrs. Doubtfire Matinee
Mrs. Doubtfire, the musical comedy based on the film, plays the James M. Nederlander Theatre on Randolph Street with a Sunday matinee at 2 PM. It suits a mixed group with kids or grandparents who want the last afternoon indoors. Single tickets were not yet on sale at our last check, and groups of 10 or more can book by phone with the theater. Millennium Park sits a short walk east.
