Ten Charleston Ghost Stories, Told With a Detector in Hand

A 90-minute night walk from Waterfront Park past the Old Exchange and St. Michael's, with ghost-detecting gear for guests to use.

Blueberry Tours walks groups through downtown Charleston after dark and tells ten ghost stories along the way. The operator is plain about the balance. Answering a guest's review, it said each story is researched so the history behind the haunting makes sense. The operator puts the mix at about 80 percent ghost story to 20 percent history.

That ratio splits opinion. Three reviewers between October 2024 and January 2025 wanted more fright, and one called the walk a history lesson in the dark; another, in November 2024, wanted more history. The listing adds ghost-detecting equipment for guests to use, and it promises an official tour T-shirt to anyone whose ghost photo the operator posts. On its own website the operator says the devices are EMF detectors, used at places where, by its account, guests on earlier walks have photographed ghosts, and it says it cannot promise that any spirit energy will show up. A reviewer in July 2025 wrote that the EMF equipment was handed out during the walk.

Tickets are sold per person, and online booking closes 60 minutes before the 8:30 PM start. As of October 25, 2026, the booking calendar showed open nights scattered through January 7, 2027, with Halloween night already unavailable and nothing bookable after that date.

Five Named Stops, Most of Them Seen From Outside

The listing names five places on the route. The walk opens in Waterfront Park with ghost stories about the city. Then it moves to the Old Exchange on East Bay Street, which is closed at that hour, so the group gathers behind the building. Next comes The Tavern at Rainbow Row, at 120 East Bay Street, also closed, with a story about what was once done there with dead bodies.

At St. Michael's Church, nobody goes into the graveyard at night, so those stories are told from outside it. The last named stop is Washington Square, which the listing calls one of the favorite places to hang people back in the day.

Meet Across From the HarbourView Inn, Twenty Minutes Early

The group meets directly across the street from the HarbourView Inn, at Waterfront Park on Vendue Range. The walk finishes on Chalmers Street by Washington Square, at the corner of Broad and Meeting streets, a few blocks from where it began. Both the listing and the operator's own ghost tour page say the guide walks everyone back to the starting point.

The operator tells guests to arrive 20 minutes early, and late arrivals cannot join a group that has already set off. Its FAQ asks anyone running late to get in touch, but says the group cannot wait. In May 2025 one family reached the meeting point five minutes before the start without having parked, came back about twenty minutes later and found the group gone. The operator's reply says its booking emails carry the same 20-minute instruction.

The operator gives its address as 1 Vendue Range, and its FAQ says the walk meets next to a restroom. The city's public restroom list has one at that address, by Vendue Fountain, open 7 AM to 5 PM daily, so it is closed by the 8:30 PM start. The nearest city restroom listed as open after 8:30 PM is in Market Shed C at 229 East Bay Street, on Fridays and Saturdays only, until 10:30 PM The operator's FAQ adds that there is nowhere on the route to buy anything.

Street Parking Is Free by 8:30 PM, If You Find a Space

City meters on downtown streets charge Monday through Saturday from 9 AM to 6 PM and not at all on Sundays or city holidays. Street parking is therefore free by the 8:30 PM start, as the listing says. The city adds that other posted restrictions can still apply at meter spaces.

Free parking still has to be found: the family that missed the walk in 2025 lost twenty minutes looking for a space.

Ages 10 and Up, With a Gap for Younger Kids

The booking page sells adult tickets from 18 and youth tickets from 10 to 17 at the same per-person price, plus a free infant ticket for children under 3. There is no ticket band for ages 3 to 9, so the booking page offers no way to add a child that age. The operator's own FAQ says it does not recommend its ghost walks for children aged 2 to 8. Every booking needs an adult, and infants can ride in a stroller. The listing allows service animals, and the operator's FAQ also welcomes dogs on a leash as long as they don't disrupt the group.

The listing rates the walk suitable for all fitness levels and, in the same list, not recommended for physically disabled travelers. The operator's FAQ puts the walk at about 1.5 miles at a leisurely pace over ninety minutes, and says the group sometimes sits, with guides looking for shade and a place to sit when they can. The operator caps each walk at 15 participants, and recent groups have run smaller: a reviewer in April 2026 had the guide to their own family, and one in October 2025 counted four people.

📍 Meet directly across the street from the HarbourView Inn, 2 Vendue Range, at Waterfront Park. The map pin sits on the Old Exchange on East Bay Street, the second stop on the route; the group gathers by the park.
