Tandem Kayaks From Dewey Beach Into Rehoboth Bay's Salt Marsh

Two hours in a tandem kayak on shallow Rehoboth Bay, with staff on the sand to get you on and off the water.

Paddle a tandem kayak into Rehoboth Bay's salt marsh.

Dewey Beach is a thin strip of town with the Atlantic on one side and Rehoboth Bay on the other. This rental launches from the bay side. The operator calls the water shallow and says its stretch of the bay sees very little motorized traffic.

You get one tandem kayak, paddles, life jackets and two hours. Nobody leads the way. Staff help you on and off the water and give a little instruction, and then the bay is yours until the boat comes back to the beach it left from. Two renters who booked this same two-hour tandem name the same pair of places: the open bay and the marsh.

The price is per boat: USD 65 buys one tandem kayak for two hours, whether one person or two sit in it. Launches go out on the hour. On the fall calendar the first is 11:00 AM and the last is 3:00 PM, and late summer adds earlier starts from 9:00 AM plus two Saturday evening slots. Bookings close an hour before your start and confirm straight away. Eighteen reviews sit on this rental, sixteen at five stars and two at three.

Across the Bay to the Marsh Canals

Across from the launch, the open bay gives way to salt marsh threaded with canals. The operator's own photo captions point paddlers along that marsh for bald eagles and ospreys. A renter writing in August 2026 described time spent watching ospreys, herons and egrets, and called the paddle the highlight of the trip.

A renter writing in 2020 about the same two-hour tandem summed up the water in five words: "Gentle waves and shallow waters." The fleet runs 10 to 12 feet long. A 2023 reviewer drew a boat with a crushed seat back and a paddle too short for them. Sit in the seat and size the paddle on the sand before you push off.

The Hour You Pick, and the Wind

The variable on this water is wind. A renter writing in September 2026 said staff got in touch ahead of time to say the wind would be high at the chosen slot, and offered better times. Take the swap when it comes. An experienced paddler the same month spent the run straight out toward the marsh working against a side-to-side current and came back unimpressed, though even that review called the kayaks in excellent condition.

The listing also reserves the operator's right to cancel for poor weather.

Who Fits in the Boat

Every paddler has to be able to swim, and the listing accepts a doggy paddle. Children have to be accompanied by an adult, each tandem booking takes two people at most, and a tandem can be converted to a single for a larger paddler. The listing asks for at least a moderate level of fitness and does not recommend the rental for travelers with spinal injuries, for pregnant travelers, or for anyone with poor cardiovascular health. Service animals are allowed.

The reviews describe a crew that adjusts to who shows up. A group of four adults and four children aged 6 to 11, writing in July 2025, said staff were patient and kind to the kids. A renter writing in August 2026, whose wife had mobility issues in her feet, said staff helped her and set the couple off in their tandem.

Parking, Tips and the 24-Hour Line

Parking and gratuities sit outside the booking. The Town of Dewey Beach charges for parking on all public streets from May 15 to September 15, 9:00 AM to 2:00 AM, and makes Monday evenings from 5:00 PM to 11:00 PM free outside major holidays. The town points drivers to the Park Mobile app.

A full refund needs a cancellation at least 24 hours before your start time. Inside 24 hours, nothing comes back. Tickets work on a phone or on paper.

Park on Dagsworthy, then go in through the back gate of the Bay Resort Motel. Check in on the bay-side beach, take your boat and the short briefing, and push off.

When the two hours are up, bring the kayak back to the same beach. The rest of the day in Rehoboth Beach is still ahead of you.
