Swim With Manatees From a Crystal River Hotel Dock

A three-hour guided manatee snorkel on Kings Bay that checks in at the Port Hotel and Marina dive shop and leaves from its docks.

Manatee Swim Center works out of a dive shop at the Port Hotel and Marina in Crystal River, next to Waterfront Social. Every trip leaves from the operator's own docks on the property, and its site counts parking among the inclusions, with no shuttle to a separate launch.

On Kings Bay a captain runs the boat while a dive professional gets in the water with the group. The operator calls its approach passive observation. One traveler wrote in July 2025 that a baby manatee came up and stayed at their leg for about three minutes while they kept still, as the guide had told them to.

The booking below covers a full 5 mm wetsuit, mask, snorkel and towel, with coffee, hot chocolate and tea on board. Breakfast is not included. The listing and the operator's tour page both put a trip at up to 12 guests.

As of November 2, 2026, the booking calendar shows 7:00 AM and 10:30 AM departures on almost every day through June 2027. July to October 2027 showed no open departures yet.

A Captain on Deck and a Guide in the Water

The listing describes a captain licensed by the US Coast Guard and a licensed, insured dive professional who joins the group in the water. It also lists first aid, CPR, AED and in-water rescue training for the in-water staff. It adds that captains and guides learn what it calls manatee manners through the Manatee Eco Tourism Association, working with the US Fish and Wildlife Service.

First-timers get a hand. The operator's FAQ says the captain or mate helps in the water and most people settle into a snorkel within a few minutes. The operator's FAQ sets no age limit; what it asks for is the ability to swim. Two travelers in May 2025 wrote that the crew sent up a drone to find manatees before anyone got in.

Why Kings Bay Fills Up in Winter

The operator's FAQ puts the water in Crystal River at a constant 72 degrees Fahrenheit all year, and its winter guide says the Gulf of Mexico drops to 58 to 66 degrees, calling the warm rivers a magnet for manatees. The same guide says they leave the coastal rivers and streams around April and come back in October.

The operator points to the winter months as the best opportunity to share the water with them. A traveler on the first weekend of October 2026 found murky water at high tide and still had some great encounters. Another that month wrote that there are a few manatees in October and the crew found them. Two reviews from June and July 2025 describe a mother and calf.

Seventy-Two Degrees Still Calls for a Wetsuit

Seventy-two degrees sounds warm, but the operator's FAQ notes that a long stretch in it could result in hypothermia. Every guest gets a full 5 mm wetsuit for that reason. Towels are on the included list, and the FAQ's packing list is a bathing suit and towel, with a sweat suit for after the swim.

Change in the shop or behind a curtain on the boat. The listing describes the boats as heated, and a traveler in May 2025 called the warm cup of hot chocolate after the water an added bonus.

What the Booking Asks and Who It Suits

The listing does not recommend this trip for travelers with spinal injuries or poor cardiovascular health and asks for at least a moderate fitness level. Service animals are allowed. The booking form takes each traveler's full name and age band, plus a special requirements field for anything the crew should know before the boat leaves.

The booking below has one ticket option, priced for ages 1 to 99, and does not list a separate option for an observer. A traveler wrote in October 2026 that a friend came along and stayed aboard while the traveler swam.
