Austin Park With Spring-Fed Swims and Botanical Gardens

Swim in spring-fed water, visit the botanical gardens, play disc golf, or link up with the Butler trail.

Bring a towel for the springs.

🌿 Water and Wide Open Space

Water first, or a wander through the trees. Zilker Metropolitan Park stretches across more than 350 acres where Barton Creek meets Lady Bird Lake, giving you room to trade a swim for a walk without turning the day into a checklist. The cool spring fed water and hillside trails make very different pitches for your afternoon.

The botanical gardens, Austin Nature and Science Center, and Beverly S. Sheffield Hillside Theatre share the grounds with disc golf and volleyball courts. Pick one pursuit or keep moving between them. There is history underfoot too, with the oldest metropolitan park in Austin listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

A longer outing starts when the trail network connects directly to the Butler route, keeping the waterfront in play. Trees crowd the banks and the downtown skyline rises beyond the water. The mix is the draw, open green space and city views with plenty of ways to spend the stretch between.
