Swap Your Rental Car for a Slingshot in Bryson City

Rent a Polaris Slingshot, pick your own road through the Smokies, and drive it at your own pace with no guide along.

Swap your rental for a Slingshot in Bryson City.

A Polaris Slingshot has three wheels, a steering wheel, two seats, and nothing over your head. Appalachian Adventure Rentals keeps a row of them on a gravel lot on Main Street in Bryson City and hands you the keys for four hours, eight hours, or a full day.

What you book is the vehicle itself. No guide rides along and no itinerary is set in advance. The staff walks through the route options with you and loads one into the GPS before you pull out of the lot.

Rentals are priced per vehicle, and the vehicle carries two people. A refundable five-hundred-dollar security deposit is taken at pickup, and insurance, helmets, and unlimited mileage are already included.

The Roads the Owners Send People Down

Appalachian Adventure Rentals publishes its own list of drives, and the recommended times tell you how to size the rental. The Cherohala Skyway and the Tail of the Dragon both run four to eight hours. The Tail of the Dragon packs 318 curves into eleven miles, and the shop describes it as a road about the pavement and the curves, with few overlooks to stop at.

The Blue Ridge Parkway sits at the other end of that range, anywhere from three hours to a full day, with a recommended access point at Cherokee near the Oconaluftee visitor center. There are no gas stations or restaurants on the Cherohala Skyway itself, so the shop tells people to fill up in Robbinsville first.

A Road That Was Promised, Then Left in the Woods

The Road to Nowhere starts on the edge of Bryson City and takes about ninety minutes to two hours round trip, which makes it the shortest drive on the shop's list. It was meant to replace the route that went under when Fontana Dam flooded the valley, reconnecting families to cemeteries on the far shore.

The money and the agreement ran out. The pavement climbs, enters a stone tunnel, and ends in the forest on the other side. People walk through the tunnel and turn back.

Who Can Drive It, and What Comes With It

The driver has to be twenty-one or older, and the vehicle takes two people in total. Both automatic and manual Slingshots sit on the lot, so say which one you want at the time you book.

Helmets, insurance, and unlimited mileage come with the rental, and the shop runs Monday through Saturday. Service animals are welcome. Car seats are not available, and the operator advises against the ride for anyone with a spinal injury.

Booking, Weather, and Getting There

Cancel at least twenty-four hours before the start time for a full refund. Later than that, nothing comes back. One booking covers the whole vehicle, and one ticket is issued per booking, on a phone or on paper.

The Slingshot is open on top, so the forecast decides a lot about how the day feels. Returning after hours can sometimes be arranged, which is worth asking about at pickup if a long route is in play. Coming in on US 74, take Exit 67, turn right at the first light, and the lot is a mile down on the right.

📍 Pickup is at 944 Main Street, Bryson City, North Carolina 28713, the address on the map pin above.

Four hours is enough to run the Road to Nowhere and still be back on Main Street before the light goes.
