Sunset on the Harlem Meer, Then Dinner up Malcolm X Boulevard
The Meer fills the park's northeast corner, and in winter the light leaves it early. The sky comes down onto the water, the Dana Discovery Center stands behind you, then it is fifteen minutes up Malcolm X Boulevard to a low-lit French room with a $45 prix fixe.
📍 From the Meer to Malcolm X Boulevard
🌅 The afterglow sits on the water
The Harlem Meer fills the park's northeast corner between 106th and 110th, and the Charles A. Dana Discovery Center stands on its north bank. Stand on the path there and look south across the water, toward the bluffs on the far shore: the sun goes behind them, so what you get is an afterglow in the sky and the whole surface taking its colour, not a sun sliding into the lake. Benches face the water.

🍷 Fifteen minutes to a warm table
Leave the park by the 110th Street gate and walk north on Malcolm X Boulevard. Barawine is at 200 Lenox Avenue, at 120th Street: fifteen minutes at an easy pace, with the avenue lit the whole way. Dinner service starts at four, the $45 prix fixe runs every day, and happy hour at the bar is Monday to Friday. Book a table ahead and confirm the prix fixe and the hours with the restaurant.

🧭 How the evening runs from sunset
Work back from the light. Check the day's sunset time, be on the bank twenty minutes before it, and give the water the half hour after, when the colour is still on it. Then walk north while the streets are easy to read: in December that window is short, so allow the full fifteen minutes and a margin for the cold. Barawine keeps the evening slow from there, low light and bistro plates, with no reason to hurry out.
