Sunset on New York Harbor, With Liberty Up Close

Ninety minutes at most: close to the statue, past Ellis Island, and under the Brooklyn Bridge.

Catch a sunset cruise past the Statue of Liberty.

The light does most of the work here. This is a sunset departure, and the boat spends nearly the whole run on open water between Lower Manhattan and Liberty Island. It pauses near the statue long enough to photograph it against the sky.

English narration runs throughout, naming what is passing on each side.

You book a specific departure and meet the boat at its dock. There is no hotel pickup, and the boat leaves on schedule with no hold for latecomers. Leave room for the walk to the pier.

What the route passes

The run stays inside Upper New York Bay and the lower East River, which is where the recognizable things are. Battery Park, Governors Island, the Brooklyn and Manhattan bridges, and the South Street Seaport all arrive from the water side, an angle no sidewalk gives you.

One World Trade Center is the tall one with the spire, and it holds the light longest as the sun drops. The Empire State Building sits further back in the Midtown cluster. Narration names them as they come.

The islands you sail past

Ellis Island sits on the route, and the boat passes it on the water. This ticket does not land on Ellis Island or Liberty Island. There is no museum visit and no climb to the pedestal.

What you get is the water-level view of both, at the hour the light is on them. The red brick and copper domes of the main immigration building read clearly from the channel, with the Jersey City towers stacked behind them.

On deck, and who fits

An outdoor deck and an indoor cabin are both open, and you can move between them during the run. A cash bar sells snacks and drinks on board. Anything alcoholic needs a valid photo ID, and the age line is 21.

Access has one hard limit. The boat takes push-wheelchairs and cannot accommodate electric wheelchairs.

Infants ride at an infant rate as long as they do not occupy a seat.

Changing your booking

The operator states there are no refunds.

The pin above marks The Battery at the southern tip of Manhattan, the waterfront this route runs off. Your boarding pier is on the Klook confirmation. Check it before you head out.

Stay on deck for the run back in. That is when the skyline lights come up over the water.
