Description
Dug out in 1902 by two Chinese laborers hired by German artist and mining engineer Gustav Schultz, the tunnel cuts through the sandstone cliffs of La Jolla Cove. Access begins inside The Cave Store, leading visitors onto self-guided 15-minute tours that involve navigating 145 stairs each way—roughly five minutes of climbing in each direction.
