Description

Established around 1945 on Board of Education property, the grounds were originally known by boundary streets as 55th Street Playfield and Kostner Park. The site is one of three Chicago parks dedicated to firefighters who died in the March 1, 1957 Lawrence Corporation factory explosion, honoring Battalion Chief Howard J. Strohacker. Across the grounds, the park runs Early Childhood and youth programs alongside a neighborhood playground and spray pool.
