Step Off the Ghost Trolley Into Savannah's Andrew Low House

A 75-minute night ride with a costumed Ghost Host that boards at 301 East River Street and adds a walk-in stop at a 19th-century ship chandlery. Ages 6 and up.

Ghosts & Gravestones tells Savannah's ghost stories from a black trolley the operator calls the Trolley of the Doomed. It starts on River Street, rolls past the squares and old burial grounds of the historic district, and stops twice. Both stops are walk-in visits of about 20 minutes each, inside the Andrew Low House and the Perkins and Sons Ship Chandlery. The listing puts the whole tour at 75 minutes.

Costumed Ghost Hosts do the talking. The operator says it does not use jump-scares, and riders this October describe guides who are funny and animated. One called it more of a comedic tour.

The calendar sells several departures a night, and the times shift with the season. As of October 24, 2026, Halloween night showed fifteen departures from 6:20 PM to 11:00 PM, five of them already sold out. On the winter dates checked, departures ran from 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM.

The House Where Juliette Gordon Low Died

One stop is the Andrew Low House on Lafayette Square, which the operator calls an 1848 mansion. The listing notes that Juliette Gordon Low, founder of the Girl Scouts of the USA, was born in Savannah on October 31, 1860, and died in this house on January 17, 1927.

Guests walk through the formal rooms while the host tells the house's stories. The operator's own list of reported activity includes the scent of perfume and a butler named Tom seen on the stairs. Photos are allowed inside, but flash and video are not. The operator also says the house may close for maintenance for two weeks every January, and it posts day-of tour changes on its website.

A River Street Chandlery, Now a Haunted Museum

The other stop is on River Street, at the Perkins and Sons Ship Chandlery. The operator describes it as a 19th-century warehouse that served Savannah's shipping trade, now a "haunted" museum where the original brick and timber set the scene. The listing gives it the same 20 minutes as the house and says you enter the building with your guide.

July 3 and 4 run differently. On those two nights the listing says the tour departs from 250 MLK Blvd and stops at the Andrew Low House and Colonial Park Cemetery.

Ages Six and Up, Rated PG-13

Children under 6 cannot ride. The listing and the operator agree on that, and the listing sells a child ticket for ages 6 to 12. The operator rates the tour PG-13 and does not recommend it for children under 10. It says the stories involve graphic historical tragedies and a dark atmosphere. Anyone under 18 needs a paying adult with them.

Service animals are welcome. Emotional support animals and pets are not allowed, and the operator notes that the tour involves narrow stairs and dark spaces.

Stairs, Cobblestones, and Rain

The listing marks this tour as suitable for all physical fitness levels. The operator's FAQ says the trolleys have no wheelchair lifts and much of the tour takes place in historic sites with stairs, cobblestones and rough ground, and it does not recommend the tour for anyone who cannot safely manage them. It asks guests who need accommodations to call at least 24 hours ahead, and the booking form has a field for special requirements. Wear walking shoes; the Andrew Low House visit includes stairs.

The tour runs rain or shine unless conditions turn dangerous. The trolley is covered but open on the sides. Bring a light jacket on cool nights and an umbrella or poncho for the short walks.

📍 Check in at the Simply Savannah Depot, 301 East River Street, directly to the right of the Lincoln Street ramp. The listing asks for 20 minutes before departure; the operator's pages say 15 to 20 and note that tours leave promptly. Plan on 20. The Old Town Trolley sales representative there scans your voucher, and a phone or paper ticket works.

The three small lots on River Street fill quickly. The operator points drivers to the Lincoln Parking Garage at 20 Lincoln Street, which it does not run. Food and non-alcoholic drinks are allowed on board, alcohol is not, and tips are not included. Cancel at least 24 hours ahead for a full refund.

Once you're checked in, the conductor's call of "all aboard" is your cue.
