Historic University of Chicago athletic grounds renowned as the site of the world's first nuclear chain reaction.
Description

Located in Chicago’s Hyde Park neighborhood, the grounds originally served as home to the university's football program under coach Amos Alonzo Stagg. Beyond sports, the site served as the location of Chicago Pile-1, where the first artificial nuclear chain reaction was achieved in 1942 under the direction of Enrico Fermi. Today, it maintains its standing as both an active athletic facility and a significant historical landmark.
