Someone Else Drives the Boat Between Winter Haven's Lakeside Bars

Briscoe's Ride Center runs a pontoon through the cut canals that join Winter Haven's lakes, tying up at waterfront bars along the way. The fare buys the boat and the captain. Everything you drink, you buy at the stops.

Let a captain run you between Winter Haven bars.

The listing sits under Orlando. The dock does not. You board in Winter Haven, a Polk County town where a chain of lakes is joined by narrow cut canals, and all three hours happen there.

Briscoe's Ride Center takes a pontoon out through that chain and ties up at waterfront bars along the way. The operator's own phrase for what you are paying for is a sober captain at the helm. Nobody in the group has to volunteer to stay dry.

The fare covers the boat and the captain. It covers nothing else. The one included item on the booking is a cooler and ice, and only if you ask for it in advance.

Drinks and food you buy at the stops, or you carry aboard yourself. The operator is explicit about the second route: you can bring your own items on the boat with you if you'd like. Three hours, 21 and over, eight travelers to a booking. The floor is two. The only price band on this booking starts at two travelers, and the operator's own reservation system also opens a departure at two before it will add single travelers to one already running. The per-person fare holds at USD 80.25 on every date in the next twelve months of loaded pricing, with no weekend or holiday step-up.

Between the Lakes, Narrow Canals Under Live Oak

The chain is a run of separate lakes joined by dug canals, and the pontoon spends part of the three hours inside them, under live oak and Spanish moss, passing boathouses and back lawns. The lakes themselves open out wide enough that the far shore goes hazy.

The operator's itinerary note sets expectations for what else is out there: lots of wildlife, and possible even an alligator in their natural environment. Read that as a maybe. Nobody is promising you one.

How much of the three hours is spent moving is worth setting expectations on. Two of the five stops sit next door to each other on Lake Howard Drive, at 1005 and 1006, and the dock is one of those two. A traveler writing in April 2023 named the trade-off: The stops are close together and most of your time is spent at the bars/dining spots rather than on the water. The hops are short by design.

Five Bars on the Flyer, and the First One Is the Dock

The operator's own flyer for this trip names the five it rotates through: Tanner's Lakeside, Harborside, Twisted Prop, Old Man Frank's and Caribbean Bay. Tanner's is the first of them, and Tanner's is also the dock, which is what makes the count work: four stops you reach by water, and one you have already driven to. Four separate reviews, filed in 2021, 2023, 2024 and 2025, count five. Two other travelers describe a drink or a meal at the dock restaurant as part of the day.

The number wobbles in exactly one place. The sales line on the booking says four to five, while the itinerary field on the same booking says five. Treat the fifth stop as near certain and the order of the rest as the captain's call on the day.

What you spend inside each one is yours to manage. The boat is the only thing the fare has bought.

Two Departure Times, and Two Days a Week With Neither

There are two slots, 4 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday carries both. Sunday carries only the 4 p.m. departure, and Monday and Tuesday carry nothing at all. Checked across the next twelve months of loaded availability, that pattern does not break once.

Tanner's Lakeside, the restaurant whose dock you leave from, keeps the same two dark days. Its own hours page reads Monday-Tuesday Closed. Neither company publishes a reason for the overlap. It is a useful thing to know when you plan, and that is as far as the evidence goes.

One piece of arithmetic is worth doing before you pick a slot. A traveler in March 2023 recommended arriving early and eating at the restaurant first, because the food there takes a while. On Friday, Saturday and Sunday the restaurant is open from late morning and that plan works. On Wednesday and Thursday Tanner's opens at 4 p.m., the moment the early boat leaves, so those are the two days it cannot.

The later boat carries its own catch. A traveler who took it in March 2024 called the evening chilly on the water and said to pick the early one. The start times also look more movable than the booking grid suggests. Three travelers, writing in 2022, 2023 and 2025, went out earlier than the slot they booked: one asked because they were driving in from out of town, one was offered an earlier start to catch the sunset, and one was moved up because the weather was turning. None of that is advertised, so ask on the phone and do not count on it.

Where the Booking and the Operator's Own Site Differ

Two gaps are worth knowing before you arrive.

This booking meets everyone at the restaurant dock on the canal side and allows no custom pickup, so getting to Lake Howard Drive and getting home again are both yours to arrange. The booking's own description asks you to line up a sober driver, and adds that the operator can help you book an Uber or Lyft for the ride home. The operator's website goes further. On its packages page it writes, If you live on the Chain or are staying on the Chain we can pick you up and drop you off at your location. That is a different offer from this booking, and it does not carry over.

The booking also ticks a row of accessibility boxes, one of which covers prams and strollers on a trip that sells only to travelers 21 and over. Those rows contradict each other. Across all twenty-eight pages of the operator's own site there is no statement about getting on or off the boat. Wheelchair access is listed with nothing published behind it, so call the operator's line before you book and ask about the boat, the dock and the help available.

Cancelling at least 24 hours ahead returns the full fare. Inside 24 hours the booking returns nothing.

The early boat has you back at the dock around 7 p.m., while the kitchen behind it is still serving. The late one gets in near 10:30, after Tanner's has locked up for the night, which is its own kind of ending. The chain goes quiet, the dock lights stay on, and nobody in the group is holding car keys.
