Description

Located at the University of Washington Botanic Gardens, the living collection brings together perennials, annuals, and bulbs to help local gardeners navigate challenging yard conditions. Plots alternate between sandy loam and clay loam textures to mirror common urban soils, while small trees introduce partial shade to test alongside full sun. Beds rely on water-wise irrigation to curb runoff and evaporation. The layout also stays dynamic: plant performance is continuously evaluated, and cultivars that grow too aggressive are replaced with better-suited varieties.
