Soar Over Hawaii Without Leaving a Kona Hotel Lobby

A motion-seat film session of about 25 minutes over Hawaii's waterfalls and coast, plus an optional second film about Lahaina. Shows start hourly from 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM.

Flight of Aloha is a seated flying theater in the lobby of King Kamehameha's Kona Beach Hotel in Kailua-Kona. You settle into a motion seat in front of a curved screen, and the operator layers wind, mist and floral scents over aerial footage of the islands. The flight itself runs 8 to 12 minutes, inside a film session of about 25 minutes. The rest is a pre-show briefing that sets up the story and walks you through boarding. It is fully indoors and air-conditioned, which makes it a plan for a rainy or scorching Kona afternoon.

Three versions are sold here: Naupaka alone, about 25 minutes; a double feature that adds the Lahaina film, about an hour; and a VIP double that adds digital photos, a 6x9 print and a wings pin. Otherwise photos are sold on site.

Naupaka Turns a Hawaiian Legend Into a Flight

The single film is Naupaka: A Hawaiian Love Story. The operator says it follows the legend of two lovers torn apart by fate and still joined through nature, flying over waterfalls, tropical forest and coastline in 8K aerial footage. In one version of the legend, as Hawaiian studies instructor Terry Panee told Ke Alakaʻi, BYU–Hawaii's campus publication, in 2023, Princess Naupaka tears the flower from behind her ear in half, sends one half to the ocean with the fisherman Kauʻi and keeps the other in the mountains. Flight of Aloha calls itself Native Hawaiian-owned and says its films were made with cultural advisors, kumu (teachers) and local storytellers. The operator describes the motion as smooth and sweeping, with no drops or high-impact movement. It says it hosts guests with mild vertigo and motion anxiety every day, and suggests precautions for anyone prone to severe motion sickness.

The Double Feature Adds a Film About Lahaina

Lahaina: A Journey Through Time is the second film in the double feature. The operator describes it flying over Front Street, the banyan tree and the West Maui Mountains, tracing the town from its whaling-port days to the August 2023 fires and the strength of its people after them. Owner Ola Shaw, a Native Hawaiian from Lahaina, told Big Island Now in February 2025 that the film plays "some very real footage." The ride was first set to open in 2023 in a space off Front Street, and he said he was "a month and a half away from opening before Lahaina burnt down." In the same interview he said some proceeds from Lahaina tickets go to nonprofits supporting the Lahaina community. Visitors who saw the film in 2025 and 2026 describe before-and-after views of the fire. If your group would rather not see footage of the fire, the single Naupaka film leaves it out.

Who Can Ride, and How

The operator's booking rules set the floor at four years old and 32 inches tall, or three years and 30 inches on the VIP package, and riders under 42 inches ride accompanied by an adult. The weight limit is 325 pounds. On this listing, child tickets cover ages 3 to 12, and adult tickets start at 13. The sources differ only for three-year-olds: this listing sells them a child ticket, the operator's own policy says children three and under need no ticket at a parent's discretion, and its booking rules let three-year-olds ride only on the VIP package. The listing does not recommend the ride for travelers with poor cardiovascular health. Wheelchair users get direct access to the flight deck and can transfer to a ride seat or stay in a designated viewing area. The operator also offers non-moving seats, noise-dampening headphones on request, and welcomes service animals.

Plan on 45 Minutes for One Film

Shows on this listing start on the hour from 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM, and booking closes an hour before each start. The operator's film pages put each film at about 25 minutes, briefing included, but its visit guide suggests allowing about 45 minutes on site for a single film. The operator lists 45 to 60 minutes for a double feature. Several reviewers since 2025 found one film short.

📍 The theater is inside the lobby of King Kamehameha's Kona Beach Hotel at 75-5660 Palani Road, on Kamakahonu Bay by Kailua Pier. Check in with an Aloha Ambassador at the Flight of Aloha desk. This listing is the Kona theater; the operator's Maui theater at Whalers Village opens December 1, 2026 and is a separate booking. Cancel at least 24 hours before your start time for a full refund. The operator validates one hour of hotel parking, which a double feature can use up. After that hour, the hotel lists self-parking at USD 20 an hour, or USD 40 for a full day. When the lights come up, the real bay and Ahuʻena Heiau are steps from the lobby doors.
