Smruti's Pleasanton Kitchen, Where Indian Spices Meet California Produce

Cook three seasonal dishes beside a Pleasanton home cook, then sit down to eat what you made.

Book a private cooking session in Smruti's kitchen.

This class happens in a private house in Pleasanton, in the East Bay, and the cook beside you is Smruti, whom the operator introduces as a software engineer by day and a passionate home cook. You arrive to a welcome drink and a snack, cook three dishes with her, then sit down to eat them.

The listing sells it as a private session, so the table is your group and the host's household. Traveling Spoon, the company that arranges the class, says it visits every host in person before listing them.

Three versions sit on the booking page: lunch at 11:00 AM on weekends, dinner at 5:00 PM on weekdays as well as weekends, and a 9:00 AM version that adds a market walk before lunch. One booking takes two to eight people, and at least two of them have to be adults. The exact address arrives with your confirmation.

Hands in the Marinade, Then a Seat at the Table

The cooking is hands-on. Both the listing and the host's own page say you mix the marinades, layer the spices and garnish the plates yourself, working beside her at the counter. Her page puts the cooking at about an hour and a half, followed by a sit-down meal with a glass of local California wine.

The menu follows what is in season, so treat the dishes on the page as a sample. That sample runs to a seasonal salad with a homemade balsamic vinaigrette, grilled marinated chicken or fish kebabs with garlic vegetables and saffron rice, and Indian rice pudding or double ka meeta for dessert.

The Market Version Belongs on a Saturday

The 9:00 AM version opens with a walk through the Pleasanton Farmers' Market, which the host's page places just steps from her home, and you cook with what you pick up there. The Pacific Coast Farmers' Market Association, which runs the market, lists it at 46 W Angela St., on Saturdays only, 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM, year-round.

The booking calendar still sells that 9:00 AM slot on weekdays too, and the host's page says she works during the day on weekdays. Book the market version for a Saturday. Her page also times it from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM, while the listing shows three hours.

Diet Changes and a South Indian Menu on Request

The listing and the host's page both say the menu can be adapted for gluten-free, vegetarian, vegan or dairy-free diets, and that she will cook a more traditional South Indian menu in place of the California-leaning one on request. Ask at booking, in the special requirements field, which is when her page asks to be told.

For allergy sufferers: the host has a small dog, and both sources say he can be kept in another room during your visit.

Ages, Refunds and the Booking Cutoff

The booking form prices children aged four to eight and adults from twelve, with infants up to three free and seated on an adult's lap. It shows no rate for ages nine to eleven. The listing also ticks stroller access and service animals, which the host's page does not mention either way.

Cancel at least 24 hours ahead for a full refund; inside that window the booking is not refundable. Bookings close 24 hours before the start time.

📍 The listing shows only a generic point in her neighborhood. The real address, and the host's contact details for directions, come with your booking confirmation.

Lunch starts at 11:00 AM and dinner at 5:00 PM, and either way the class ends at her table, over the dishes you just made.
