Skidmore Fountain
3.9 (266)attraction
Portland’s oldest piece of public art is an 1888 bronze fountain designed to water horses, dogs, and humans alike.
Description

Funded by a bequest from local businessman G. Skidmore, the downtown landmark was shaped by architect Otto Schumann and sculptor H.A. Schmidt. The monument pairs granite with bronze, centered on three bronze caryatids holding up a shallow basin. While recognized as a notable historic site, visitors note the surrounding area can experience typical urban issues.
