Six tastings, twelve people, and no stop list in advance

A guided walk from Columbus Park to Lt. Petrosino Square, where the route and the six plates are the guide's call.

Start at Columbus Park for six surprise tastings.

The walk starts at the east edge of Columbus Park, on ground that carried the name Five Points through the 1800s. Three hours later it lets out at Lt. Petrosino Square, on the Nolita side of Little Italy.

Between those two points you eat six times. The stops are not named when you book — the operator publishes the dishes and keeps the addresses to itself.

Groups cap at twelve travelers. Guides run the route in English or in Spanish.

Secret Food Tours started in London and now runs walking tastings in more than 120 cities. This New York route holds 4.9 out of 5 across more than 3,300 traveler reviews on Viator, counted for this tour rather than for the company's whole catalogue.

Two departures a day, Wednesday through Monday: 11:00 AM and 3:00 PM. The 3:00 PM walk finishes around 6:00 PM, at the hour most dinner tables turn.

NYC: Chinatown & Little Italy Food Tour with 6 Flavorful DishesThree hours on foot, six tastings, twelve travelers max, guided by Secret Food Tours.www.viator.com

The Chinatown half

Three of the six plates are Chinatown's: crispy handmade dumplings, a freshly baked roast pork bun, and Dan Dan noodles.

The operator describes the bun's bakery as one locals line up down the block for, then leaves it unnamed. The same holds at every counter. The guide picks the shop, and the plate arrives with the history of the block attached to it.

Across Canal Street

Canal Street is the seam. Cross it and the shopfront languages change, the walk moves into Little Italy, and the last stretch runs up into Nolita.

Two plates land on this side: a New York Italian pizza slice and a pesto arancini. The sixth is the one the company built its name on, a Secret Dish you hear about when it reaches your hand.

The operator states outright that the itinerary and the menu can change with what is open, the weather, and the day. Read the six as the shape of an afternoon rather than a fixed menu.

Who this walk fits

The operator rates the route for all physical fitness levels and runs it at a walking pace with long stops. A TripAdvisor review of this tour credits a guide named Denna, who "looked after us even though we had a slower walker cause of an injury and a vegetarian".

The written policy sits tighter than that one afternoon:

  • Guests using wheelchairs, and guests whose impairments need special assistance, cannot be accommodated
  • Dietary requirements go to the operator ahead of the day, not to the guide on it
  • Infants ride on an adult's lap, and pets stay home
  • Gratuities and transport sit outside the ticket

Comfortable shoes are the operator's own recommendation.

Where it starts, where it ends

The guide waits across the street from Tasty Dumpling at 42 Mulberry Street, by the east entrance to Columbus Park, holding an orange umbrella. Check in fifteen minutes before the departure time.

📍 The pin below marks the finish, Lt. Petrosino Square, on the Lafayette Street edge of Nolita. Subway lines reach both ends of the route.

Booking closes two hours before departure, and confirmation comes back by hand rather than instantly. A mobile ticket or a paper one both scan, one per booking.

Cancellation terms:

  • Full refund when you cancel at least 24 hours before the scheduled departure time
  • Nothing back inside that 24-hour window
  • The operator calls it off for bad weather or for too few travelers, and offers another date or a full refund

The same listing sells a private upgrade for a group that would rather not share the twelve places.
