Six Penguins Return to the L.A. Zoo for the First Time in 42 Years

Six Magellanic penguins are back in the Rainforest of the Americas pool, the zoo's first colony of the species since 1984.

Meet the colony before four.

🐧 At the Rainforest of the Americas

The zoo's first Magellanic penguins since 1984 share one pool at the Rainforest of the Americas, where you can watch them swim. Give the pool a few minutes before moving on. Plan to reach the exhibit before 4 p.m., when the animals start heading in for the night, and note that last entry to the zoo is 3:45 p.m. Gates open at 10 and close at 5, adult admission is 27 dollars and children 2 to 12 are 22 dollars. Halloween weekend brings Boo at the L.A. Zoo on Oct. 31 and Nov. 1, with trick-or-treat stations, keeper talks and pumpkin enrichment for the animals across the grounds, free with zoo admission.
