Preserved Civil War trenches line this promontory, marking the decisive final assault of the 1864 Battle of Nashville.
Description

Historically known as Compton's Hill, the site encompasses nearly six acres of core battlefield land protected by the Battle of Nashville Trust. Here, Union forces broke the Confederate left flank during a late-afternoon charge on December 16, 1864. A walking trail climbs from Benton Smith Road to the summit, where interpretive displays, monuments, and historical markers detail the engagement and commemorate the soldiers who fought on the slopes.
