Description

Glenn Stanton and Florence Gerke originally designed the grounds to feature plants and flowers mentioned in William Shakespeare's plays. First established in 1945 at Crystal Springs Lake before moving to Washington Park, the site preserves a memorial donated in 1946 by the LaBarre Shakespeare Club. Set into the brick wall, a commemorative plaque pairs the writer's likeness with his line, "Of all flowers methinks a rose is best."
