Description

Established in 1971, the center takes its name from Segundo Ruiz Belvis, a Puerto Rican abolitionist who helped free enslaved children under Spanish rule. Inside a 13,000-square-foot historic venue, that legacy shapes programming dedicated to Puerto Rican and Latin American culture with a focus on African heritage. Activity ranges from the La Cantera performance ensemble and professional artist residencies with on-site housing to paid youth apprenticeships and a youth-led urban garden.
