Search the Gettysburg House Where Jennie Wade Was Born for Ghosts

Investigators hand you EMF meters and spirit boxes, then run EVP and flashlight sessions in the rooms of a 19th-century home.

Jennie Wade was the only civilian killed during the Battle of Gettysburg, and this hunt takes place in the unassuming 19th-century house where she was born. It is her birthplace, not the Historic Jennie Wade House museum, which stands just down the street; the birthplace sits a few steps from the Shriver House Museum and the Tillie Pierce House.

For two hours a guide who doubles as a ghost-hunting specialist works through the house with the group, pairing its history with live sessions on the equipment.

Hunts start at 7:30 PM and 10 PM. The ticket covers the guide, the use of the equipment and the full two hours.

The Equipment Goes Around the Room

This is a hands-on hunt. EMF detectors, spirit boxes, REM pods and dowsing rods are handed around once the group is inside, and everyone takes part in EVP and flashlight communication sessions in real time, working side by side with seasoned paranormal investigators.

The guide is billed as both a licensed tour guide and a ghost-hunting expert. One 2025 traveler wrote that their guide was honest whenever a reading could be debunked or a device was malfunctioning, a useful sign for skeptics.

Look for the Lantern at the Brickhouse Inn

Everyone meets at the gift shop of the Brickhouse Inn on Baltimore Street. Your guide will be the one holding a lantern, and the operator asks you to arrive 20 minutes before the start time.

From there the group follows the guide on foot to the birthplace. One 2025 traveler noted that it is a bit of a walk for anyone who may have trouble on their feet.

Small Groups, Sometimes the Whole House

Groups are kept small, and shared hunts are capped at 18 people. On a quiet night the group can be just your party: one 2025 traveler's family turned out to be the only guests and had free roam of the house once the guide had demonstrated each device.

The 10 PM hunt runs until about midnight, which suits a late plan after dinner in town.
