Sea Screamer's Back Rows Get the Dolphins, and the Spray

A narrated loop of Clearwater Harbor on a deep-V speedboat, then open Gulf water where dolphins come to swim in its wake.

Sea Screamer is a diesel-powered speedboat with a deep-V hull, listed by its operator at 73 feet. An hour aboard comes in two parts. The crew first narrates a loop of Clearwater Harbor, pointing out waterfront homes and historic spots. Then the boat heads into the Gulf of Mexico to find Atlantic bottlenose dolphins. The hull throws a big wake, and the operator says dolphins sometimes play in it only a few feet behind the boat. The listing's name calls it Clearwater's only speed boat dolphin trip, which is the operator's own billing. Its FAQ gives the specific version of that claim: the only deep-V offshore tour boat in the marina, which it says lets Sea Screamer go farther and work offshore most of the time.

Booking through Viator gets you a ticket on your phone or on paper, with instant confirmation, and online sales close an hour before departure. The operator also takes walk-ons when there is room. Cancel at least 24 hours ahead for a full refund; inside 24 hours, nothing comes back.

Where to Sit, and How Fast It Really Goes

Every guest gets an individual bucket seat, and where you sit shapes the hour. The operator warns that spray will get passengers wet in certain seats, and guest reports from 2024 through 2026 point to the same place: the back rows sit closest to the wake where dolphins surface, and they take the most water. Sit toward the back for the dolphins and toward the front to stay drier. A February 2026 guest put it plainly: "They go fast and you get soaked, but they also slow down so you can enjoy seeing the dolphins." Speed comes in bursts on open water, and the operator puts the boat's top speed at 35 miles per hour. A few guests who came for a nonstop thrill ride wrote that it ran slower than the name led them to expect.

What the Dolphin Guarantee Pays Out

The listing and the operator both say dolphin sightings are guaranteed. The operator's FAQ explains the terms: the crew sees dolphins about 99 percent of the time, the dolphins are wild and have to be found, and when the crew does not find any, you are welcome back at any time for a free tour. The guarantee is paid out as a free return trip. A guest in September 2025 used it: no dolphins on the first ride, a free rebooking, and dolphins two days later. Finding them can take a while. A July 2026 group saw nothing for the first half hour, then watched several jump in the wake behind the boat.

Booth 11, Slip 7, and a 45-Minute Head Start

Check in at the Sea Screamer ticket booth, Booth 11, at Clearwater Beach Marina, 25 Causeway Boulevard, where each guest receives a boarding pass. The boat sits at Slip 7. The operator's booking system and contact page both say so, the city's charter directory lists Sea Screamer at slip C7, and the city says the tour boats are now in their new slips along Coronado Drive. The listing asks you to arrive 45 minutes before departure during the marina rebuild, and the operator says the boat leaves promptly at the scheduled time. Parking is the usual reason people run late. The city says the rebuild has reduced the spaces in the marina lot, and it prices that lot at USD 3.50 an hour with a two-hour limit. Ask at the booth for the daily code, which drops the rate to USD 1.00 an hour and extends the limit by two hours. The operator's fallbacks are the beach lot across the street and three or four garages within walking distance, and it flags February through July as the stretch when beach parking fills quickly. It also suggests parking downtown and riding the Jolley Trolley, which runs about every 15 minutes, subject to causeway traffic.

Full Sun, Four Steps, and What's Sold Aboard

The operator describes Sea Screamer as an open-top boat ride, and guests on summer 2026 trips wrote that the seats, and the wait before boarding, are in full sun with no shade. Pack sunscreen, cover your head, and wear clothes you don't mind getting wet. Water, soda, beer and hard seltzer are sold on board. The booking page files bottled water under what's included, while its own description and the operator's FAQ both list water among the drinks for sale. There are two restrooms aboard, and the operator says tipping the crew is customary. The booking page rates the trip suitable for all physical fitness levels; the operator's FAQ is more specific about access. The boat is not wheelchair accessible, the boarding ramp's height changes with the tide, there are four steps on and off, and strollers are stored securely on the dock.

Posted departures run at 10:00 AM, 12:00 PM, 2:00 PM and 4:00 PM, and a trip can stretch past the hour when the dolphins are farther out. The operator's own calendar sometimes drops or shifts a slot, and the time printed on your ticket is the one to plan around. A guest on the first morning trip in July 2026 found the boat quiet enough to move around freely, and saw dolphins under a bridge before the boat even reached open water.
