🏗️ Twenty-Two Teams, From The Odyssey to the Knicks
Canstruction is a yearly design contest in which architects, engineers and contractors build large sculptures entirely out of unopened cans of food. This year 22 teams compete, and the Downtown Alliance previews pieces ranging from “The Odyssey” to the Knicks’ championship win, alongside pop culture and city landmarks. The sculptures stand in the Winter Garden and along the halls of Brookfield Place, and when the show closes every can goes to City Harvest for food pantries and soup kitchens across the five boroughs. The top photo shows a fire-truck sculpture from the 2025 edition in the Winter Garden, and the event card shows another 2025 entry, a can-built Stitch.
🗳️ Free to Walk In, Tours by Sign-Up
The exhibition is free to wander any day from 10:00 AM to 7:00 PM, with no ticket needed. The educational tours are separate and each one requires advance registration on Eventbrite, where the listing shows them as free with limited space: October 31 at 11:00 AM, November 4 at 5:30 PM, November 5 at 12:00 PM and November 7 at 11:00 AM. Visitors can also vote for the People's Choice winner once Brookfield Place posts the ballot link, and kids can pick up an activity sheet.
🥫 Donating Cans and the Live Build
Bringing food is optional and not a condition of entry. Unopened cans can be dropped at the information table in the Winter Garden from 10:00 AM to 7:00 PM. The Live Build on Thursday, October 29 is a separate preview the day before the show opens, when Design Park and West Collection assemble one sculpture in the Winter Garden from 10:00 AM for about six to eight hours. The exhibition then runs October 30 to November 9 at 230 Vesey Street, and the final day closes at 6:00 PM.
