Description

Assembled by the Chicago Park District starting in 2002 and expanded with additional parcels in 2009 and 2010, the site was originally cataloged as Park No. 503. The open grounds are designated for passive recreation. In 2014, the Chicago Park District Board of Commissioners formally named the space in honor of Clara Dorothy Schafer, recognizing the nurse and administrator who saved South Chicago Hospital—now Advocate Trinity Hospital—from extinction.
